About

Hi there and thanks for stopping by my blog!

My name is Angela and I am a 28 year old event planner with a passion for exercise and healthy eating. I am a California girl who is now living on the East Coast because my husband, Jeremy (aka: the professor) is getting his PhD at Yale.

I LOVE food and I LOVE working out. I know…call me crazy, but I look forward to my 5:45AM spin classes. The first running event I ever completed was a marathon! Have I mentioned that all my friends think I’m crazy?

Currently, I am trying to become the healthiest person I can be. I struggle, like many others, to have a positive body image. Even though I love food, I don’t really have the best relationship with it. I just started seeing a therapist for my issues and although I am not comfortable posting all the nitty-gritty details here (not yet anyways), I am determined to stop criticizing myself and to once and for all get healthy!

I don’t really know why I have such a negative image of myself…my parents have always been very supportive of me and my husband tells me every day how beautiful I am. I just don’t believe it and I am finally admitting that I have a problem. I hope by admitting it, I can get past it.

I have never been extremely overweight. I was actually down right skinny in 7th grade…awkward, but skinny. I was involved in soccer and ballet when I was young and I started swimming in high school. At that time I thought that because I worked out out I could eat whatever I wanted. I would usually get home, eat a bunch of snacks, and then eat dinner…sometimes with second helpings! I use to be able to eat 8 pieces of pizza…gross! Looking back, I had a great exercise ethic, but didn’t know much about the power of food.

I put on about 10lbs my first two years of college due to an excess of drinking and eating too many late night nacho’s. Since then, I have lost about 15-20lbs and am smaller than I was in high school. Who can complain about that?!?

Bear with me as I try to kick my sugar addiction. I could eat a plate full of frosting if it was in front of me…no I am NOT kidding, I think I have a serious problem!

I have dabbled in veganism and let’s just say I never really got out of the shallow end of the pool on that one. I don’t eat any red meat, I love fish, and if I eat chicken it has to be organic and free of hormones and all that other gross stuff! I recommend reading, The China Study. It is a great book and actually changed my whole perspective on food…it totally rocked my food world.

I am very interested in nutrition and would like to take some classes at the local community college. Yeah, with all the spare time I have!! Who knows- maybe I can find a way to fit it in. If I had to go back and do it all again I would have majored in nutrition in college and become a certified fitness professional. I do LOVE my job though, it is crazy at times, but totally fits my type A-personality. Who knows…maybe someday I will finally get my spinning instructor certification!?

So why am I starting this blog and thinking that anyone will read it? I am writing and rambling for my own personal greed…I want to be healthier in body & mind, I want to inspire myself (and hopefully others :) ) to try new things, and I want to get a grip and find my balance with food & life!

Fun Facts About Me

  • Green is my favorite color
  • I love windy days.
  • My favorite thing to touch is the covers of books. I just stroll around Borders stroking book covers. Does that sound weird?
  • My favorite shows are Arrested Development, So You Think You Can Dance, What Not to Wear, The Soup, Lost, and my new fav is Modern Family
  • The professor and I have no cable of any kind at our house
  • I have the worst singing voice, but if life had handed me different cards I would have been a performer. Singing in a broadway play would be my idea of heaven. I wish my life were a musical.
  • I am a budding photographer. Just bought my first SLR, now I have to figure out how to use it. I would also love to take a photography class.
  • If I were on a stranded island I would take sabra hummus, salad, and wine!

  • I just came across your blog and am interested to see more! I also don’t have cable/a TV. I use my computer. People can’t believe I survive without cable or a TV.

    • Hey Sarah- Isn’t it weird how everyone just can’t believe you don’t have cable. It’s funny, but I don’t really miss tv anymore. Plus, I can watch everything I need online. :)

  • I just found your blog through Eating Bender…and LOVE that our philosophy is so similar…finding balance and all that jazz. :) Lookin’ forward to reading more!

  • Hey there! Nice to “meet” you. Thanks for stopping by my blog. :)

  • I would love to be an event planner!! Any suggestions on how to get into it without any formal experience?

    • Hey Teri-
I would suggest volunteering for some sort of committee that is planning a golf tournament, local 5K’s, a fundraiser or something like that. Usually they are always looking for volunteers and it’s a good way to tell if you like it or not. I can give you more info if you like, just email me at 2bahealthyfit@gmail.com. I tried to find your email on your blog, but I must be blind or something. :)

  • Nice to meet you! What does your husband study? My husband’s at graduate school at Yale, too! I loved reading about your story :) If you ever want to get into nutrition, you should! It’s such a great field, and I’m so happy to be in it. I can’t wait to read more about your experiences!

(PS We don’t have cable, either!)

  • I work for an event planning company too! Except my job always sounds much more glamorous than it actually is! haha! And I don’t have cable tv either. In fact, I just don’t even watch tv! I’ll watch dvds occasionally but I don’t turn on the tv or else I find I get sucked in all night, get nothing accomplished, and stay up entirely too late.

    • Hey Rebecca- Yes, the life of an event/meeting planner always sounds WAY more glamorous and exciting than it is…but I’ll take it! Occasionally it is glamorous and it’s alway interesting!

  • I just came across your blog and love it not to mention I love 5:00 am spinning class….gets the day going off right! I think you have an amazing story and look forward to reading more!

  • Wow, 5 in the morning spin? That is dedication! I love Sabra hummus, definitely beats every hummus I’ve ever eaten. Love forward to reading more of your blog!

    +1

  • Hey! Just found your site and I’m loving it so far! Thanks for being so honest! I think that says a lot about your progress! Go you!! Also, I have not read the china study…I think that will be my next. Currently I’m reading Anticancer…a new way of life. HIGHLY recommend it!! I think you will love it! I’m a dietitian but it’s still opening my eyes to the real problem of pesticides, chemicals, stress etc and how they can promote cancer!! check it out!!

  • I live in California but would much rather be on the East Coast…I am jealous! :)

I can relate to your sugar habit..I used to have one too!

    Great blog!

  • I might steal your idea of doing “fun facts” for my about me :)

  • Just found your blog via Wellsphere! The China Study changed everything for me, too! – I’ve embarked on “cutting out the crap” since reading it in 2006. Even knowing everything from reading, it’s still hard to always stay on track, so I love the “becoming the healthiest person I can be” mantra! I recently moved from the East Coast to SoCal. I feel for you, especially with the summer heat! I’m also an indoor cycle instructor (RealRyder and Spinning) and embarking on teaching 6:00/7:00 classes starting in September. Glad to know there are peeps out there who LOVE the early mornings!

    • Thanks for your comment! Did you hear that a movie based on The China Study is coming out? Lucy you moving east to West! How do you like it? How long have you been a spin instructor, I have been toying around with the idea of getting certified to teach.

      • A movie!?! That should be interesting.

If you’re thinking about certification there are exciting new things on the horizon. I originally certified through Johnny G./Mad Dogg in 2005, but I’m working with RealRyder (a trainer-training is coming!). It’s an amazing bike – a whole body work-out! it simulates the feeling of being outdoors, which is great if you can’t get out on the real road due to weather, safety or time restrictions. It has moved spinning to a whole new level for me!

  • Hi Angela! I am stopping by from Lady Bloggers. I love your sense of humor. Am also a fan of So You Think You Can Dance. What do you think of this season’s new format with the All Stars?

    • Hi Karen- Thanks for stopping by! I am not really loving this season. I just don’t really see the point of having the all stars. It’s fun to see them dance again, but I think I like the normal format better….and I miss Mary Murphy!!!

  • My husband is working on a PhD in Mathematics. Do you ever feel like a PhD widow? I don’t think people understand how much work and time goes into a PhD.

    • Definitely! So much time goes in to his work. I made him promise that weekend days are for us and that seems to work. It’s not healthy for them not to have set break times. When I’m not around all he does is work!
