Today I was a monster…a sugar monster.
I’ve been so proud of myself for “just saying no” to sugar and not-so-good-for-you goodies. Today that all came crashing down. I crumbled when I saw the cookies and then that led to cracking into the cupcakes.
We haven’t had too many holiday treats at the office. We were all actually wondering where they were. Then, today, they came pouring in like an avalanche.
First up…delicious home-baked cookies. I couldn’t say no. I am a cookie monster. Instead of just taking one and being done with them, throughout the day I kept taking more and only eating a bite or two. I brought my leftovers home.
See…I only nibbled on them. Actually, the one whole is a second one of that kind that I took. I ate the whole thing. Hey! Don’t give me any gruff…it was chocolate chip with caramel. The professor ended up finishing all of these off.
After the cookies came in, we got a few more packages. Then a hotel came in and brought us Crumbs Bakery cupcakes. These are the BEST CUPCAKES EVER!!! If you are in the NY or CT area you just have to go get one. Prepare to tape these suckers to your ass, cause that’s where they’re going!
Mmmm, I’m salivating! I tried a little tiny tiny piece of this one…along with two others. I was so bad I was good? I think I need to have a double workout day tomorrow.
Since I haven’t been eating much sugar lately, after my cupcake taste-test, I was on a sugar high. I was flying around the office. Then I felt gross…sugar overload. At least I have satisfied my cravings and I will stay away from all of the goodies tomorrow. I can do it! No really, I can! I think I can. No! I know I can!!!
I had to even out all of this sugar with a good-for-me dinner, so tex-mex tofu scramble it was.
This was just what the doctor ordered. Tofu, mushrooms, salsa, and wholly-guacamole! My taste-buds and my stomach were thanking me.
P.S. I don’t plan on indulging like this every day. Actually, I signed up today to do a 10-day clense put on by www.sparkyourwellness.com and www.choosingraw.com. It starts on January 18th and I plan on blogging about my progress here. We all tend to make resolutions at the start of the new year, just like these ones:
- Improve my health
- Improve my appearance
- Increase my energy and productivity
- Eat more responsibily and nutritiously to improve my health, improve my appearance, and increase my energy and productivity
- Exercise 3 hours per day, 7 days per week for the entire 365 days of 2010 (don’t overshoot now!)
Basically, the cleanse is meant to cover all of these goals. There are 3 different levels of the cleanse and I think I am going to do Level 2.
- Level 1 focuses on gently reducing inflammation in the body caused by hidden food allergies or sensitivities, as well as discovering what foods each person’s body does not tolerate well. By the end, participants will have more energy, feel lighter, and have a deeper understanding of how food affects their bodies. This cleanse is designed for those who have never done a detox before or who currently eat a diet high in meat, dairy, sugar, processed foods, and/or caffeine.
- Level 2 takes cleasning one step further to help you reboot your metabolism by detoxing from common allergens and addictive foods, while adding several supplements along the way to help support your body for a deeper cleanse.. Participants will boost energy levels and reduce toxic internal inlammation by taking a break from foods that are difficult for our systems to digest. This is a great cleanse for those who already eat a moderately healthy diet and are ready to take their wellness, energy levels and metabolism to the next level.
- Level 3 focuses on restoring the body’s alkalinity, in enhancing elimination and digestive health, and on awakening stored toxins with raw, plant based foods and vegetable juice. It will be a user-friendly introduction to raw foods and how to implement them. Participants can opt for either a high-raw or a semi-raw, all vegan protocol. This is a perfect cleanse for those who have some familiarity with an all plant-based diet, but who are seeking to enhance digestive health and break lingering addictions to processed foods and animal products. It’s also a perfect option for those who have dabbled in raw foods and juicing, but need some guidance in maintaining consistency into 2010.
Upon signing up, each participant will receive instructions on how to begin slowly eliminating addictive foods, such as sugar and caffeine, from their diets before the cleanse.
Outcomes of the 10-day cleanse include:
- Resetting the body’s metabolism
- Getting rid of toxins
- Reducing inflammation
- Losing ‘fluff’ weight
- Feeling lighter & reducing bloating
- Learning about new and healthy foods you enjoy eating
- Improving digestion
- Clearer skin
- More energy
- Giving our bodies a chance to heal
- Getting the ‘glow’
- Revitalizing your diet and your life by breaking out of negative thinking and unhealthy patterns
If you are interested in joining the cleanse then here are all the details…The cleanse will last from January 18-27. All three practitioners will jointly host a teleclass on the benefits of a cleanse, as well as details of the program, on January 6 at 8pm. Regular cost is $60; people who sign up before 12/31 get $10 off; people who sign up with a friend each get $5 off. Bloggers who participate in the cleanse and promote on their blog receive $10 off. Holistic Health practitioners receive $10 off.

P.P.S. These are the first photos with my new camera. I have alot of practice and learning to do. This baby is no simple point & shoot. It’s funny, but it took me like 10 minutes just to figure out how to take a picture–don’t ask, that’s a whole ‘nother blog.

The best meal I’ve ever had was a Mexican tofu scramble that I ate in Portland. I was just thinking about it yesterday

Everyone has those moments this time of year. I feel like if you’re going to indulge, indulge on something really great (Crumbs cupcakes definitely count! Those things are LEGENDARY!)

I know…I just can’t pass them up, so I took a mini taste. It was SO worth it.

I want to eat one of those cupcakes RIGHT NOW. The SparkPeople detox sounds interesting and I am thinking of joining it for January. Phin and I had tried Dr. Joshi’s detox, but 3 weeks is a very long time to follow that kind of program – for me at least. 10 days seems much more manageable. It will feel good to do a detox and feel less fluffy after the holiday madness! Also, I think in general having an online community of support will help to get through it. Detoxes are inevitably a challenge, and knowing others are doing the same thing, at the same time, will help get over the hurdles. It will be a great way to start the new year! Thanks for the info! P.S. Keep me posted on that Almond Butter.

That’s what I figured. After all this sugar madness, I need to clean it out and get “re-set”. Let me know if you do it so we can chat about it.
